Finding Purpose In Storytelling

I remember when I was first spellbound by great storytelling.

I was just a kid, maybe 5 or 6, and completely powerless against the gravitational pull of Star Wars. I barely knew how to tie my shoes, but I knew in my bones there was powerful magic and truth in these tales. I wanted nothing more than to tell my stories and spent my nascent days acting out adventures with my friends.

It wasn’t until later in life I connected the dots and realized storytelling was my spark. I’ve always loved to create and make things, but storytelling drives my passion. It’s the rose-colored lens through which I view the world.

It seems obvious in hindsight, but it took time to recognize this pervasive theme throughout my life. Now, I’ve dedicated my personal and professional studies to understanding the deeper elements of storytelling to become a more empathetic and impactful storyteller.

This blog encapsulates the thoughts, lessons, and works I’ve accumulated as a student of story. It’s an archive for me and, I hope, a resource or thought-provoker for others.

Whether it’s writing, filming, or making images, I believe core storytelling principles are universal. While my focus is primarily on writing and photography, I take inspiration and lessons from many sources.

My goal is to become more intentional and thoughtful with my storytelling to bring positive change into the world.

The challenge is discovering how to apply these lessons and solidifying them in ways that can be shared and explored.
