Fuji’s Classic Chrome film simulation is one of my absolute favorites. It’s grading is iconic and customizable. This variation, which I call Classic Grunge, adds a filmic vintage look to images.
I put this together for a recent trip to Los Angeles and was curious how it would perform amongst the greenness of LA’s acclaimed Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens. I am pleased with the results!
These images were taken as JPEGS with the X100F and adjusted lightly in CaptureOne, with a matte S-curve applied to complete the look.
Classic Grunge is about setting a mood, not about perfect images. It works best when overexposed by a half stop (give or take) and invites you to embrace bright highlights and deep shadows to create stark contrasts. It was fun to experiment with this as a creative element when making images, and I found the recipe to be playful and carefree.
Classic Grunge created interesting images in range of shooting conditions, from the bright cloudless afternoon sun to shady bamboo forests and naturally-lit indoors.
