Hi! I’m Christopher.
And if you’re like me, you can’t get enough of creating and making things.
And if you’re like me, you struggle to bring long-term focus, strategy, and consistency to your creative work and other areas of life due to ADHD.
Maybe you have dozens of projects you’ve started but never finished, overestimate how long it’ll take to complete a project, or wait until the last minute to start a project.
Do you wrestle with voices of self-criticism when you forget something or make a mistake?
Or maybe you want to start a career or business based on your creative passions, but your ADHD gets in the way.
If this sounds like you – you’re not alone.
Millions of adults – including creative professionals – are diagnosed with ADHD and thrive when they get the information, strategies, nutrition, and pharmaceuticals that work for them.
I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until I was 37.
My whole life, I’ve struggled with certain executive functions, poor working memory, distractibility, procrastination, and intense emotions.
For years I thought something was wrong with me. Why were these things so easy for other people and hard for me?
I got good at masking my symptoms and deficiencies because I was embarrassed by my faults and would beat myself up with every mistake.
My teachers would tell my parents I was smart, but I would underperform in classes that didn’t interest me.
Joining the military after high school gave me the structure, discipline, and accountability I needed to thrive through my naval career and college.
It wasn’t until I started my first corporate job that my ADHD began to creep back in.
As my areas of responsibility grew at work and home, I became overwhelmed by the many tiny details, to-do’s, and obligations that come with adulthood.
I was tired of being overwhelmed and unfulfilled by my career. But I also struggled to find my passion and a path to pour my energy into.
Thinking my skillset, discipline, and motivation were to blame, I poured myself into productivity and self-help books, courses, blogs, and nootropics to try and “fix” myself.
I also self-medicated with things like cannabis, video games, and other unhelpful coping mechanisms that prolonged my struggle and held me back in essential areas of my life.
I learned a lot during that time. But one of my biggest lessons was that the popular productivity systems, tips, tricks, and hacks that apply to neurotypical folks didn’t work for my brain.
After my diagnosis, I got therapy, strategies, supplements, and medication to manage my deficiencies while tapping into the productive qualities of ADHD.
Now that I have a much better understanding of my condition and how it affects me and have the right supports in place, I can think and act on my terms instead of stewing in and reacting to the challenges my ADHD caused, and I want to help others do the same.
I am not a doctor or an expert – but I am here to support professional creatives who feel your ADHD is preventing them from realizing more of their potential by sharing what’s worked for me and thousands of other creatives with ADHD.
You are not alone!
